The natural life in Ubud

Ubud, Bali, April 3rd, 2007
Tum Tum Pa Tum Tum…a soft sound of traditional Bali music comes to my ears.
It sounds nice to hear in the quiet night of nature, of insect sound combined with a human music, becomes a nice sound of a culture and the beautiful life that you can find in here Ubud, Bali.
I arrived here with Luca 3 days ago. When we arrived, first we stopped in Kuta for 2 nights.
When I saw Kuta it reminded me Khao San rd. in Bangkok. It’s like that place never end of fun and enjoy life.
A lot of cars and people and clubs and a lot of shops and the beach full of plastic and dead fish and surfing people (alive), some people clean but not so well so if the sea can speak I think he would like to say “Please Help me”.
Something comes to my mind: I was wondering why people come to Bali?
Why they think this is a beautiful place?
I asked Luca. Luca said to me “Lek, This is Kuta, real Bali we will see in Ubud and tomorrow you will see”.
The next morning we are in Ubud and I am really happy to be here, the air is fresh, the houses like mixed Chinese and India, very beautiful, make me feel of a house painting in China, people are very nice and smile but sometime they pushing you to buy, in a polite way but not too much as in India.
There are many nice Cafes and restaurants, and that gives you a relaxed feelings with the natural wood chairs and hand made decorations.
There are many plants, flowers and trees on both sides of the street.
We have a nice room in a cheap guest house “Warini home stay”.
Here they serve you a tea and a breakfast in the morning included in the
price of 60,000 Rupee (around 5 euro). From the door of our room we can see a tree and the roofs of many traditional Bali houses and we have balcony to sit and look the view of the sky and drink a cup of tea so I talking to my self “yes, this is a paradise”.
You might think why do I say that, it is just a normal room but believe me if you are here it is not because the money that you paid for the room but it’s the feeling that you can get from your eyes, your ears and breathing the clean air.
All these things, you can’t find in the Capital City but I am sure that you can find it here in Ubud.
I might say “Yes, I finally falling in love with this place” and tonight I feel even more because in the silent of the darkness, the wind pass through the room’s door till coming to me.
Step by step it makes me feel fresh.
Suddenly I was telling myself: “these people live the perfect life, stay with the nature and more than anything they never leave their culture and tradition behind”.

Ubud is really a magic place to stay! I was there last summer with my wife and we had one of the best holyday of ever.
Starting from the main street, there is a secondary street uphill paved with blocks of cement, on each of them people have left their signature, messages, etc. On top of this street (going up, on your left) there is an accomodation quoted also on the lonely planet guide (only two rooms). The man organises tours in the nearby. Go there and do the 1-day tour to the rice fields + vulcan. The amazing part is the return by bike through villages. The way back from the vulcan to Ubud is 95% downhill road, so easy to do by bike. This is unique because you pass through “original” villages and you can see the countryside as it was before occidentals start building resorts and hotels. A trip in the wild and original bali. Something to try.
